Sustainable Development

Promoting sustainability
through effective food preservation

We believe, that sustainability in business is minimizing negative effects on the environment and society, while improving the livelihoods of community. Growello Holdings (Pvt) Ltd has developed its sustainability strategy based on the triple bottom line and referring to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

At the face of a global food crisis, Growello Holdings (Pvt) Ltd is addressing the pressing issues of food waste and hunger management. We preserve food through dehydration, canning and few other standardized approaches. Raw materials are sourced from our registered farmer clusters to cater to both the local and global markets. Sufficient profit is allocated for uplifting the lives of every stakeholder connected with the company.

Roadmap to sustainability

Project “Heraliya”

We contribute to reducing carbon emissions through project “Heraliya”, which aims to plant 20,000 jackfruit trees by 2027. The project was initiated with distributing 100 plants among rural women and 500 trees were planted by May 2022. The project encompasses both commercial and domestic cultivation. This will create a culture that appreciates jackfruit in Sri Lanka. We promote organic farming ensuring the protection of soil from chemical fertilizers, while encouraging cultivation in abandoned or unused.  As a solution to the food crisis Growello Holdings (Pvt) Ltd is planning to introduce a variety of jackfruit that gives a high yield, which will mature and bear fruit within a short period of time. The harvest will be purchased at a fair price for developing jackfruit based foods.

Project “ASPIRATION”

Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving the community and the world better than we found it. From each unit of sale, we donate a rupee for project “ASPIRATION” to inspire students who are living in poverty. We believe that access to learning should not be a dream and every child deserves to see the world through the lens of education.

Currently our aspiration project covers children and adolescents up to the age of 18 who live in the Kurunegala district. We are planning to increase the number of beneficiaries to cover the whole island in future and interested donators will be invited to join hands with us. Our plan is to assist at least 1000 students by 2027.

Renewable energy in the production process

Currently, all lighting inside and outside the factory is powered by a solar power system and we are planning to make 100% of our processing plant function with non-renewable energy sources by 2025.

Zero- waste production process.

Farmers of the surrounding area are allowed to use the waste generated throughout the production process to produce their organic fertilizer and animal feed.

Research is being conducted to develop new products with the utilization of waste to reach the goal of zero waste by 2025. For example, we are experimenting to produce vinegar from fruit peel

Sustainable packaging

We always try to use environmental- friendly eco packaging for our products. Research is being conducted to develop packaging with recyclable materials.
